The best diagnostic for connections 5/5
Since we're often travelling we use this all the time to compare local WIFI performance with our MIFI and direct LTE connections. A great app!
Great App 5/5
Great app, but it should alow me to save a favorite server just like the iOS app.
great app 5/5
use it all the time , have had my home internet modem changed a few times just because i can keep track of the speed. When it gets slow i call the cable company.
Time saver 5/5
I can now speed test with a could clicks on the keyboard
Does the job and does it well 5/5
This is an excellent app - simple to use and it delivers speed information in a way that's… well… speedy! Very pleased with it.
Good App, can benefit from 1 more feature 4/5
I love the app for its utility, but I really am hoping that you guys give more options in which the app measures the internet speed. It gives it to me in mbps, and it gets annoying to keep mathematically calculating how much that is in mbs. So just add the option of showing the speed in mbs pls, it would really help me out a lot!
Reliable with options 5/5
I’ve been using Speedtest by Ookla since they were only a website. Like their website, you have the options to change the server to perform the test and many are local. They are dependable and is the app I go to measure download speed. I highly recommend this app in whatever platform you use.
Good app but 4/5
This is THE BEST app for testing network condition. But there's one thing that I don't know if any of you have experienced. I can never normally quit the app, not even once. I always have to Force Quit the app. Am I the only one?
Idea for Speed Test 5/5
I would like to see a way to seperate the test by connection name like the wifi name and ethernet and be able select which connection weather wifi or ethernet
Best IT Tool 5/5
I've used speedtest for years, the app is now a constantly utilized tool of mine when performing network tests for clients.
Great tool for network engineers 5/5
I am a Technology Architect and use Speedtest regularly to baseline Internet connectivity and find bottlenecks in customer networks, or diagnose peering issues. It is super easy to use and will tell you immediately where the bottleneck is. One note, though, Speedtest is multi-streamed, which means you cannot measure single stream performance that is often a bottleneck for multi-cored network appliances that have some application layer functionality. It is more of a tool to find out whether your Wifi is giving your bottlenecks, the firewall is underdimensioned, links not negotiating correctly, and the like. It is also a good tool to show a customer that a 10 Gbps pipe does not automatically leads to 10 Gbps of throughput unless you make the investments into network infrastructure to support that.
Works fine now 4/5
This app was not working properly after I first downloaded but seems to be working fine now.
Speedtest App Doesn't Work in Catalina 1/5
Speedtest app, which worked correctly in Mojave, does not work in Catalina. Open app and only get spinning wheel for Finding optimal server and Finding provider. This after a clean Catalina install then install app. Have uninstalled then reinstalled app, same not working result. Have uninstalled the app.
App Won't Run 1/5
I downloaded the SpeedText app and when I open the app, it 'hangs.' It appears stuck looking for an optimal server and provider. When I run Speedtest in a browser, it works fine, as does the old reliable DSL Repots speedtest. Went to vendor web site for support and was not able to find any info to help.
Speedtest Ookla 1/5
Fails to load. Fails to connect.
You need to update for Catalina 4/5
IN order for the app to work in Catalina, one has to go into privacy settings and allow location services for the Speedtest app. Once done, the app works fine but an update should be made to cue the user to allow location services.
not Catalina-proof 1/5
This doesn't work for me using MacOS Catalina!
broken 1/5
it just doesn't work.. never finds an optimal server or provider. if i 'start test' it gets stuck on connecting, then i have to force quit. this is on a 2016 MBP, using Catalina.
The wheel kept a turn'n 1/5
Your app was recommended by AT&T for capturing speeds greater than 100bps. AT&T recently installed their FIOS system in my home. I was told that the max download was 300bps. I have a 2018 Apple iMac21' Desk Top which has been updated with the new Catalina OS.Your App just kept searching for the connection.. after a couple of minutes, I stopped the app and removed it from my DeskTop.Normally speed checks are seamless. Maybe it was me.
Doesn't work since update to Catalina 1/5
This app worked great up until I installed the new macOS Catlina. Now it just opens finds a server but wont' run a test. It just sits blank. I've re-started the computer and deleted and re-downloaded the app. Still not success. Disapointed.
Doesn't appear to work with MacOS Catalina Beta 2/5
Opens but doesn't find a server with MacOS Catalina 10.15.1
Does not work with Catalina 1/5
This worked before I installed MacOS Catalina. Now it just continuously searches for a server.
Easy to use! 5/5
This app is great! It is easy to use, and I can check my wifi speed anytime now without waiting for the webpage to load!
Does not work on my new MPB with Catalina 3/5
I have tried to uninstall it and restart my computer but it does not seem to find any servers even after approximately 30 minutes of running. Not sure why since the website works fine along with other speedtest apps/websites. I have also tried on different computers and my iPhone and it does work there. It seems to be a MacOS Catalina compatibility issue, possibly if they are using 32-bit software drivers or the server locator used 32-bit drivers. I am still giving this three stars since it has worked great for past years and I am sure Ookla is hard at work on this. Have a great day! :)
Wouldn't work after download 3/5
Had to force quite and reopen twice for it to finally work. Brand new Imac.
Doesn't work properly with new macOS 1/5
You can only use the app once and right after a restart otherwise it can never find any servers.
Mac Pro (late 2013) app didn't work at first 5/5
Speedtest did not run on my Mac Pro (laate 2013) running 10.14.6.I can log onto their website and the website works. When I tried the app again, It ran perfectly and accurately
Doesn't work on macOS Catalina 1/5
App is unable to find a nearest server and test will not start.
Wont connect on my hardwired iMac 1/5
..using 10.15 it spins forever looking for a server. Web version works fine. Not sure if this is the issue but I have a hardwared connection AND a wifi connection becuase iWatch login also requires wifi to be on.
App v 1.6 does not work on OS X v 10.15 1/5
I can't seem to get the OS X App v 1.6 to work on OS X 10.15. It looks for provider and optimal server and never finds them.Web version works fine.On iMac with Ethernet connection.Sorry to leave this as a review, but the Contact link on speedtest.net is broken - returns 404 not founf.
Doesn't ever connect 1/5
App used to work fine, but now with Catalina, it doesn't ever seem to connect.
Doesn't Connect 1/5
Never connects. Useless. I was so hoping to get a non-browser based speedtest. :(
can not quit app!!! 1/5
can not quit app!!!
Doesn't work 1/5
Keep clicking run test and nothing is happening, it juts keeps spinning
Bad App 1/5
these Guys Don't know how to code i open this app to run speedtest but no this App says i have no internet but i do its stuck on finding server until i hit the setting buton then run in menu bar button then it works fine until i close it fix this app its a peace of crap for macos
Just Installed - So Far? It Works. 4/5
Just installed the app, thus far, it works. My provider is “Mother Company” (from the movie: The President’s Analyst) a.k.a. AT&T. Yes, I have a landline. Yes, for my iMac. “Ma Bell’s” speed test shows I’m getting what I’m paying for. This app shows I may not be. This app shows where it’s “Pinging” from - SanFrancisco, 75 miles away. Ma Bell’s app does not show where their pinging from; so I may be comparing proverbial “Apples to Oranges”. Time will, or at least may, tell.
Can not quit 2/5
After I'm finished using this app, the quit button is greyed out and Command-Q does not work. I have to force quit the app.
Just keeps spinning 1/5
Never gotten it to work. Never finds any connections. Just keeps spinning.
Great app!..but 4/5
Please allow a search funsction for the speed test server location. On the webside you can search fora server, on the app you are stuck with whatever it deides to let you pick from :(
Does not work. 1/5
Doesn't connect to anything, just spinny wheel forever.
Ethernet Speed Test Bug 4/5
I downloaded this app since the website pop-up said it was more accurate for speeds over 100mbps. When at my desk, my macbook is connected with ethernet. The app will work if Wifi is enabled, but when i disable Wifi to test the ethernet speed, the app cannot locate a server or run a test. The app also returns lower speeds than the website when both Wifi and ethernet are connected, leading me to believe the app can only see the Wifi connection. The website works fine and gives me my ethernet speed from my ISP when Wifi is disabled. This appears to be a bug with the app that it only tests your wifi connection.
A Clean and Clear Cut Speed Test . . . 5/5
I love having an app that not only is easy to access, but does what I have been going in a web browser “without” the overhead of the browser weighing down the results. Clean and Clear results!!!Any chance of an update to match what I have on my Android Tablet with Streams Selection?
Circle of Death 1/5
This app doesn't seem to work. All I get is the spinning cirle and the words connecting. No connecting is happening. I can run the test fine off the website, but nothing from the app.
5 stars for how it used to work 5/5
It worked when first installed on 8/14/19, but now, even though the web version works perfectly, the desktop app just spins and spins and cannot find an optimal server or provider.(I apologize for doing this here, but I can't find an answer or even how to ask a question on Ookla's support site.)
App doesn't work. Zero stars. 1/5
Spins forever on 'Finding optimal server and 'finding provider'. Clicking 'Go' leaves it forever spinning on 'Connecting'.Will stick with website.
Doesn't work 1/5
Wont go past the 'Connecting..' stage.
It can not quit 3/5
The app has bug and canno quitmacOS 10.14.16Macbook Pro 15inch 2018
Does NOT work 1/5
All the app does is try to find the optimal server and find the provider. It doesn't ever run a test. The current version of this app is useless.
under Mojave must enable location services 5/5
Noticed several one-star reviews complaining that app never finds server. If you are running Mojave, then you must enaable location services for this App. (System Preferences / Security & Privacy / Location Services) Surprised that I do see this on App page here or on respose from developer(s).
